Protection against Cosmic Radiation Effects
The trend to reduce the size and energy consumption of electrical circuits while increasing their speed results in the higher sensitivity of the circuits for disturbances from high-power short-waves. Neutron radiation is one example for causing those effects: it might induce the socalled "single event effects" on microelectronic components. Special measures have to be taken to protect electronic equipment in front of those radiations.
